Welcome to our Hebrew School

The Hebrew School at Congregation Sons of Israel is responsible for the education of children ages 3-13. Our school is run by capable teachers who are dedicated to the Jewish education of our young people. We have a class for 3-6 year olds, where the children begin to learn the Hebrew alef-bet, do arts and crafts, learn fun songs, and begin the learning of the Friday night service. At the age of 7, the children progress to a different class, where they perfect their Hebrew language skills, discuss the weekly Torah portions, continue to learn the prayers of the Friday night service, and learn about the history and culture of the Jewish people, including holidays and other occasions.
At the age of 11 or 12, the children go to study with Rabbi Cywiak, in order to prepare for their Bar/Bat Mitzvah. At least one school year is spent studying with the rabbi, so that the children become completely familiar with the material they are required to know in order to be called to the Torah.

Hebrew School at Congregation Sons of Israel takes place on Sundays, 10am-12noon. Children's Services take place on the first Friday of each month, when the children get to practice what they have learned.
